Shortly thereafter two wells <br /> <br />were drilled near G"'rcie. in Irs Anim!l.s county which produced suffioient <br /> <br />&&8 to heat end illuminate the buildings upon the ranches upcn which they <br /> <br />were located. <br /> <br />The production of neturnl gas in the Arkansas River basin of <br /> <br />Colorado, however, has never been 0 f very g re~t commercial importance. <br /> <br />In 1927 a well drilled on government lend in the Red Rocks dis- <br /> <br />J\.....:.....c:.. <br />trict in Lns Animas county was found to contain ~ percent heliu~. Later <br /> <br />helium was also discovered in ne.tural gas wells in the i':odel DOr:l.e in las <br /> <br />Animas oounty_ Proceedir~ under the authority of the helium act. the <br /> <br />Secretary of the Interi or recently approved the purchase of these heliu1f. <br /> <br />wells and they will be held in reserve for future requirements of the <br /> <br />goverment. <br /> <br />The Colorado Interstate Gas Company and associated interests <br /> <br />completed in 1928 a 34D-mile pipe line from the Amtlrillo field in Texas <br /> <br />to Denver. TMs line directly and indirectly S'1rves the steel mills at <br /> <br />Pueblo and tl-..e cities of Denver. Golo:"'8do Springs. and Pueblo_ Since its <br /> <br />completion it has been e-'tended 6f>stward to supply La. Junta. Rocky Ford <br /> <br />and Swink and other towns in the ArkansRs Valley and westwArd to supply <br /> <br />industrial plants and communities in Fremont county. <br /> <br />One of tre hrgest noatural gas Froducing fields in tre world is <br /> <br />located in soctbwestern Kansas. This is kn~ln ~s the HUgatOD Field and <br /> <br />lies principally in Stevens County. It 0.150 exte!1Cs to Grant and Haskell <br /> <br />counties. sout~;estern Finney county and southeastern Kearny county_ <br />
