Nature of Activity

The proposed NarrOl'1s Unit of the Hissouri River Basin Project is

a multiple-purpose water and related land resources development located

in the lower South Platte River Basin in northeastern Colorado. The

proposed Unit ~1Ould serve the functions of irrigation, flood control,

recreation, and fish and ~1i1dlife enhancement, as well as potential

future municipal and industrial "ater supplies.

,The Narrows Unit was originally authorized for development as part

reauthorization by the Congress of any units of the Missouri River

Basin Project on which construction,was not undct.,ay as of August 14,

1964. Authority for 'the Department of the Interior to engage in the

fea~i~~lity investigation of the Narrows Unit was provided by the Act

of September 7, 1966. The Secretary's report \'/as transmitted to the

Congress on Hay 27, 1968 (H. Doc. 320, 90th Congress), with the recotn-

menclation that the Narrows Unit be authorized for construction in

accordance Idth the basic plan of development presented therein. The

Secretary's report is supplemented by a reevaluation statement dated

May 1969. revised November 1969.
