<br />28 <br /> <br />RESULTS OF STUDIES <br /> <br />water which cannot be utilized during the period covered by this <br />operation because of lack of exchange opportunity when Dillon <br />Reservoir is full. <br /> <br />The lower graph on Figure 4 indicates the amount of water <br />in storage in the South Platte reservoirs throughout the period <br />of the study, It may be noted that after the Harold D, Roberts <br />Tunnel was assumed to be completed in 1962 the reservoirs would <br />rapidly fill and would remain essentially full until the middle of <br />1978, As noted above in the paper operation of the system the <br />spills from the South Platte reservoirs were kept to a minimum, <br /> <br />Attention is directed again to the portion of undiverted <br />supplies from the Blue River that could be utilized or stored in <br />South Platte reservoi rs by exchange if the South Platte reservoi rs <br />had sufficient unfilled capacity to store that water, The total of <br />this type of water for the study period would amount to more <br />thon 800,000 ocre-feet, This water constitutes a reserve that <br />would be available to be brought over and stored in existing <br />reservoirs should their storage be depleted below that portrayed <br />on Figure 4 becouse of the occurrence of years of extremely low <br />runoff, an accelerated growth in demand, or a combination of <br />these factors. <br /> <br />Figure 5 is the same as Figure 4 except that a power plant <br />is operated below Gross Reservoir to generate 7000 kilowatts of <br />firm power. The general operation of the system is the same <br />except that somewhat more water would be undivertible by the <br />Moffat system because of the generation of power at Gross <br />Reservoir which would mean a greater use of Blue River water, So <br />far as the operation of the South Platte reservoirs is concerned, <br />the operations depicted on Figures 4 and 5 ore practically identi- <br />cal. Again there would be undivertible Blue River water which <br />would be available for exchange to South Platte reservoirs should <br />the storage in those reservoirs be depleted, <br /> <br />While the operations portrayed on Figures 4 and 5 are <br />predicated on a system composed of the so-called "minimum" <br />facilities, it should be recognized that, an the basis of the Howson <br />forecast, the annual water requirements of the City near the <br />end of the period covered by the study will be approaching the <br />
