Dr. Alam reviewed results of surge irrigation data and pointed
out the need to reduce the volume of water used on the first
irrigation. It was also mentioned that ES will try to schedule
field tours on dates more convenient for area farmers. It was
suggested thot mid August might be better than mitl' July.
Fred Miller Buggested that ES consider making video tapes
available on subjects of local Interest, such as surge
irr Igat Ion. Producers could then take the tapes home and view
them at their leisure.

E. Dr. Alam informed those present that Extension Service
associated with the Lower Gunnison salinity area was recognized
for their good work and expressed appreciation to the LCC for
their support.

F. Dill Self informed the LCC that the Shavano SCD plans to have
participants review their salinity plans with the SCD. This is
being implemented to encourage more active participation by the
participant during the planning process.

G. Charlie Dowell suggested that Montrose and Delta compare cost
dockets and, iF simtlar, combine them for simplicity. After
some discussion, it was determined that the two counties would
keep separate dockets. The two counties will compare average
cost data periodically, but separate dockets allow more
Flexibility 'or 1he counties.

H. Land smoothing as an eligible salinity practice was discussed.
The LCC believes that land s~oothing should be cost-shared and
will recommend that it bl authorized under cnsc.

4.
