Halfmoon Creek Diversion

Halfmoon Creek diversion did not divert any water into the Mt. Elbert
Conduit this year because Mt. Elbert Powerplant was out of service
during the runoff period.

E. Twin Lakes/Mt. Elbert Forebay and Mt. Elbert Pumped-Storage
Powerplant

On September 30, 1982, the lake surface elevation of Twin Lakes was
9184.86 feet with a content of 102,950 acre-feet of water. Mt. Elbert
Forebay water surface elevation was at 9635.18 feet with a content of 8,360
acre-feet.

Table 5 and
year 1983.
Twi n Lakes.

exhibit 8 show Twin Lakes/Mt. Elbert Forebay operation for water
Exhibits 9 and 10 show the precipitation and pan evaporation at

During water year 1983, 76,480 acre-feet of water was released from
Turquoise Lake through Mt..Elbert Conduit to Mt. Elbert Forebay (table 6 and
exhibit 11). In addition to this quantity of flow-through water, 1,420 acre-
feet of water was pumped from Twin lakes into the forebay for Mt. Elbert
Powerplant power generation.

The powerplant generated almost 28,840,000 kilowatt-hours during water year
1983 with 75,690 acre-feet of water.

A portion of Twin lakes water was moved to Pueblo Reservoir throughout the
winter months to make space available for the spring runoff. The water was
moved due to operating the old dam and the need to store Twin Lakes
Reservoir and Canal Company decreed water supply.

In addition to the Twin Lakes Reservoir and Canal Company imports, the com-
pany imported through their tunnel 3,120 acre-feet of water for the
proj ect. An equal amount of water was bypassed into the Roari ng Fork
drainage at the Hunter Creek system by the project. Twin Lakes /Mt. Elbert
storage at the end of the water year was 116,350 acre-feet.

11
