EXCAVATION FOR ?OUTH <br />SHORE MARINA <br /> <br />The item 0' tne sched~le for excavation, aU ctas.ses, "for <br />south shore rnarif"!a includes all e~ca~atj_on and gradjngs <br />required for constru1..1ion ot the south shore marina as <br />shown on Drawing No. 45 (382.0-1431). <br /> <br />The finishsp excal/ation shall be graded smooth to the <br />appropriate grqdes shown on the drawings. <br /> <br />Measurement, for p3yment, of excavation, all classes, <br />for south shore marina will be made 85 provided in <br />Subparagr~ph .B1d. Payment for excavation, all classes, <br />for south shore marina will be made at the unit price <br />per cubic yard bid therefor in the schedule, which unit <br />price shall include all costs of grading and all costs as <br />provided in Subparagraph 8ld. <br /> <br />87. EXCAVATION, COMMON, FOR <br />CONCRETE DAM AND STILLING <br />BASIN <br /> <br />The item of the schedule for excavation, common, for <br />concrete dqrrI and stilling ba$in includss all exr:avation <br />required for r~moval of common material in the access <br />roadway across the top of the existing concrete plug <br />t and adjacent Buttresses 15 and 17, the roadway ramp <br />in the downstream end of Buttr8Si 1, and the roadway <br />ramp into the spillway Dutlst channel where the <br />training wall is to be cpnstructed. <br /> <br />88. EXCAVATION, ROCK, FOR <br />CONCRETE DIl-.M <br /> <br />The item pf the schedule for excavation, rock, for <br />con~rete dam includes all rock excavation required to <br />deepen or enlarge buttress excavations to obtain the <br />desired sound rock foundation for the dam and the <br />additIonal excavation in Buttress 7 to acco~modate <br />the south outlet pipes and downstream gate chamber, <br />and will include the removal of loose rock 1 cubic yard <br />or larger in size from existing excavated surfaces for <br />t the concrete dam. Additional required buttress <br />ex.cavations are shown on Drawings No. 36 <br />(382-D.1338) and 36A 1382.0-1342). <br /> <br />Prior to any blasting for rock excavation the <br />contractor shall submit h\So plan for bla~~ing' roc'K <br />excavation to the contracting officer tor appro.val. All <br />blasting operations, drilling and b./as.ting patterns. <br />depth and size of holes, and weight of charge per delay <br />shaH be subject to approval by the contracting officer. <br />The explosive shall be of such quantity and moderate <br /> <br />SPECIFICATIONS NO. DC-6945 <br />(SUPPLEMENTAL NOTICE NO. 31 <br /> <br />power and shall be used in such locations as will not <br />open seams or cracks. or cause damage to the rock <br />outside of the prescribed limits of excavation. As the <br />excavation approaches the final excavation lines. and <br />except for the last 5 feet of rocl< to be excavated, the <br />depths of blast holes shall not exceed two-thirds of the <br />depth of the rock remaining above the final grade and <br />the amount of explmive used in each hole shaH be <br />reduced progressively. Whenever, in the opinion of the <br />contracting officer. further bl-.sting might damage the <br />rock. the use of explosive iihall be discontinued, and <br />the excavation shall be completed by wedging, barring, <br />channeling, line drilling and broaching, or other <br />suitable methods. When the excavation has been <br />completed to the final line$ shown on the drawings or <br />established by the contracting officer, the surface shall <br />be cleaned oft with an air and water jet under high <br />pressure for purposes of inspection. t <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />The contractor shall place a concrete protective coating <br />on the exposed shale surfaces in Buttres5i 10 upon or <br />against which concrete will be plaaid. <br /> <br />The contractor shall not perform excavation within the <br />final 1 foot of finished surfaces in areas which will <br />require protectiye coating5i until ~ll equipmwT)t and <br />facilitie.s r~quired for immediate application of <br />pr.otectiv,e coatings are available and in worKing <br />t condition. The final 1 foot of e)(cavation in areas <br />requiring protection shall be completed within 8 hours <br />and protective .co.ating shall be qpplied to those areas so <br />that finished excavated surfaces will be exposed for the <br />shortest possible period of time which shall not exceed <br />one-half hour. Exposed finished excavated shale <br />surfaces shall be kept moist at all times to prevent <br />evaporation of the natural moisture in the material and <br />shall be protected from freezing. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Surfaces to be coared shall be cleaned of all loose <br />material, dirt, dust, mud. standing water, and other <br />foreign matter. Coatings of protective materials shall <br />not be applied when air temperature is below 350 F, <br />nor during rainy or other adverse weather as <br />determined by the contracting officer. <br /> <br />Concrete protective coating shall be applied so that the <br />contact surface is covered to a depth of not less than 2 <br />inches. The concrete shall conform to the applicable <br />pfOlJi~jons specified in Paragraphs 129 to 150, <br />inclusive. The exposed surfaces of concrete protective <br />coating shall be considered as a construction joint and <br />as such shall receive the same treatment required by <br />the provIsions of Paragraph 170, prior to placement ot <br />structural concrete on the concrete protective coating. <br /> <br />, <br />.' <br />., <br />, <br />, <br />1 <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />58 <br />
