Economie Concem$- according to information from 'the Bureau <br />of Reclamation the llrojeet is too cos1fy ($710 million I to do <br />without looking 3t other altematlves. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Tribel Concerns-the current project addresses the Settlement <br />Act of 1988 wi1h regard 'tQ the Ute Moun~ Ute and Southern <br />UUl Tribes, but fails to .cecum for the adverse impact tI:I the <br />needs of 1I1e nation's largest mae - the Navajo Nation. <br /> <br />EPA has c:onsiSt9ntly expres:oed c:oncerns over 'the inadequacy <br />of the environmental analysis for the Animas-LaPlata- Projec;t. EP A <br />desires to explore a solution with int8rested parties that meets all <br />tribal water,rights and simultaneously addresses the economic and <br />environmentai cOncems. ' <br /> <br />If no significant changes are made by 1i1e "Bureau of <br />Reelarnation before the final environmental statement for 1he project is <br />published in early April, EPA has the option to refer 1i1ls m~ to the <br />President's Council on Environmental Quality in Washingtgn.
