In 1988 and 1989, about 17,000 acre-feet of water
was recharged using the unlined portion of the old
Coachella Branch of the All American Canal

. A test program should now be undertaken to test
the feasibility of recovering the recharged water

. The test program includes:
- Drilling 4 recovery wells
- A short pipeline to the lined Coachella Branch
of the All American Canal
- Obtaining an electric power supply for the pumps

. The Bureau of Reclamation, Coachella Valley
Water District, and The Metropolitan Water District of
Southern California reached agreement in July, 1992
on the terms and conditions of such a test

. Water would be pumped from the groundwater
basin into the Coachella Canal and in exchange,
Metropolitan would divert a like amount through
its Colorado River Aqueduct

. Efforts are being made to implement this program
