INFLUENCES ON MANAGEMENT <br /> <br />A. Legislative and Administrative Constraints <br /> <br />The Antiquities Act of 1906 (16 U.S.C. 431) is p~ticularly relevant for <br />Dinosaur National Monument because of its scientific values which are found <br />primarily at the quarry. Other vertebrate fossil remains or prehistoric <br />Indian habitations are also found throughout the monument. <br /> <br />The National Monument was enlarged to 203,885 acres by Presidential Procla- <br />mation (President Franklin D. Roosevelt) on July 14, 1938, which also <br />stipulated". , . that this reservation shall not affect the operation of <br />the Federal Water Power Act of June 10, 1920, (41 Stat. 1063), as amended, <br />and the administration of the monument shall be subject to the Reclamation <br />Withdrawal of October 17, 1904, for the Brown's Park Reservoir Site in <br />connection with the Green River project. Other laws such as the Wilderness Act, Wild <br />and Scenic River Act, Endangered Species Act, Mining Act P.L. 94-427, and <br />others affect park management. <br /> <br />Grazing of domestic livestock shall continue for a period of 25 years after <br />September 8, 1960, and thereafter shall continue" . . . during the lifetime <br />of the original permittee and his heirs. . ." These grazing privileges <br />are based on the authorized use of certain areas in 1960 and are dependent <br />upon compliance with appropriate federal regulations. (Section 3, P.L. 86-729). <br />Grazing appurtenant to inholdings shall continue until inholdings are <br />purchased. <br /> <br />Acquisition of land for the administrative headquarters is restricted to <br />not more than 400 acres.
