MANAGEMENT OBJECTIVES <br /> <br />119'1 <br /> <br />Acquire private and State inholdings as they become available. <br /> <br />Establish a public-use capacity for the rivers, based on both ecological <br />studies and esthetic considerations. <br /> <br />Develop techniques to manage river use that will minimize the impacts of <br />the designated river campgrounds and provide alternatives to the present <br />disposal of human waste along the river. <br /> <br />Invalidate all mining claims (as per P.L. 94-429). <br /> <br />To the extent feasible manage all the monument's resources as a total <br />environment, to perpetuate the natural, historic, and prehistoric features <br />for which the area was established. <br /> <br />, <br /> <br />Cooperate with the Bureau of Land Management in managing feral horses as <br />exotics. <br /> <br />Cooperate with the State of Colorado, Moffat County, the Department of <br />Agriculture and the Bureau of Land Management to provide treatment and <br />control of the Mormon cricket to a "holdover" population within the park. <br /> <br />Maintain a viable population of bighorn sheep within the monument, through <br />close cooperation with State fish and game departments. <br /> <br />Manage grazing in the monument so as to mitigate its effects upon natural <br />ecosystems. <br /> <br />To cooperate with other State and Federal agen~ies and Endangered Species <br />Recovery Teams in the protection and management of the rare and endangered <br />species and their habitat within the monument. This includes the humpback <br />chub, Colorado squawfish, Peregrine falcon, and the rare bony tail chub and <br />humpback sucker. <br /> <br />Seek cooperative agreements with Federal and State agencies to aid in the <br />protection of park wildlife. <br /> <br />Determine the feasibility of reintroducing extirpated species to the monument. <br /> <br />Encourage qualified research studies to increase knowledge of the resources. <br /> <br />Identify, protect, and preserve historic and prehistoric features. <br /> <br />Determine the role and use of fire in the monument and study the changes <br />which are brought about by the suppression of this element. Restore fire to <br />its natural role in ecosystem maintenance. <br /> <br />Provide paleontological research to identify additional fossil area within <br />the monumen t. <br /> <br />SFM-ll <br />
