<br />o <br /> <br />, ~-~) <br /> <br />l'Y <br />CT.l <br />..... <br />,..... <br /> <br />GLEN CANYON DAM <br />POWER PLNl EXPANSION <br />STUDY <br /> <br />TilE STUDY <br /> <br />The study to evaluate the economic and environmental impacts <br /> <br />of expanding the power plant at Glen Canyon Dam is just beginning. <br /> <br />The meeting tonight is being held to inform people that the Bureau <br /> <br />of Reclamation is initiating the study and to listen to concerns <br /> <br />people might have about the power plant expansion, Reclamation is <br /> <br /> <br />, interested in identifying the concerns of people so that data can <br /> <br />be collected to address the concerns. <br /> <br />It is important that people exprctls their ideas at the meeting <br /> <br />tonight, but it must be realized that Reclamation is just b.eginn1ng <br /> <br />the study and will not be able to provide answers to specific questions. <br /> <br />HISTORY OF STUDY <br /> <br />There is a rapidly increasing need for additional peaking power <br /> <br />plants in the Colorado River Basin, (please refer to; "Peaking Power, <br /> <br />What Is It?", in this brochure). Between 1975 and 1978 the U.S. <br /> <br />Bureau of Reclamation conducted an extensive inventory of potential <br /> <br />hydropower sites in the Colorado River Basin. Twenty-three alter- <br /> <br />native sites in the Upper Colorado River Basin were actively evaluated <br /> <br />using a diverse set of criteria. As a result of the inventory, the <br /> <br />"Peaking Power Status Report" was prepared in 1978. The expansion of <br /> <br />the Glen Canyon Power Plant was recommended for further study in the <br /> <br />report. Congressional authorization was granted in 1978 to conduct <br /> <br />. <br />
