Average annual water shortage
(percent of requirement) 12.1 3.8 7.3

Tbe preceding tabulation shows that present water shortages
average 7.3 percent of annual requirements for the overall project.
Water shortages for lands under the West and M&D Canals are greater,
averaging 12.1 percent of their annual requirement.

Water utilization under improvement plan.--Under the improve-
ment plan, additional supplies of water could be delivered to project
farm8 because of conveyance loss reductions and regulation by the
potential Coal Creek Reservoir storage. Water supplies available
to lands under the West and K&D Canals would also be increased
because of increases in capacities of these canals in constructing
canal lining and new conveyance structures.

Coal Creek Reservoir storage water would be used principally
during periods of peak water needs. Diversion of water into and
conveyance by existing systems would continue approximately as at
present except that the availability of additional supplies during
peak use periods would allow the water users to reduce their diversions
before and after such periods when the diversions are in excess of
crop needs.

.

58
