001983

1. Creation of a simple ground water object and associated methods.
2. Ability to separate irrigation return flows into surface and ground water components.
3. Creation of an efficiency method for irrigation diversions that is a function of supply
(Variable Efficiency Method in RiverWare). Result is that no depletion shortage occurs
until maximum efficiency is reached. See Figure 6-1.
4. Creation of ground water component as a function of computed efficiency (see 3).
5. Ability to compute irrigation depletion request as a function of evapotranspiration rate,
irrigated area, incidental losses, and when appropriate, sprinkler evaporation.
6. Ability to compute diversion request as a function of depletion request, minimum
efficiency, maximum efficiency, capacity.

Methods 5 and 6 were not available until most of the depletion scenario analysis runs were
completed. However, this did not affect results because these methods replicated computations
performed by the pre-processor.

Version 2.1 of RiverWare has been released. This release incorporates the new rule language and is
not backwards compatible with previous releases. A 2.1 compatible version of the model should be
available during the summer of 1999.

RiverWare TerminoloQv

A brief description of the objects used in the SJRIP Hydrology Model and other RiverWare
terminology follow:

AggDiversionSite

The aggregate object allows many water users with separate diversions, return
flows, and consumptive uses to be combined on the RiverWare Workspace.

AggReach

The AggReach is an aggregate of Reach Objects. It performs no routing
calculations, it just totals various information from its elements.

Confluence

This object models the confluence of two streams or rivers into a single
outflow.

Data Object

Holds user-defined data and Expression Slots.

GroundWater

The groundwater storage objects models a simple fill and spill underground
body of water.

Reach

Routes water through a section of river using one of many possible routing
algorithms.

Storage Reservoir

Reservoir with release and spillways and no hydropower facilities. Storage is
a function of pool elevation as defined by an elevation-volume table.

Other definitions:

DRAFT - SJRIP Hydrology Model Documentation
June 18, 1999

44
