OJ19'i7

3. 1,317 ac-ft subtracted from NMMinorlRCHilIToFarm:NonIRDep.

4. 1,965 ac-ft attributed to Chaco non-irrigation depletions.

Line items 3 and 4 sum to 3,282 ac-ft. This was mapped by the USBR as 1400 ac-ft for
Scattered Rural, 65 ac-ft for Fish & Wildlife, and 1,817 ac-ft for Stockponds from subunits 3, 6,
5, and 7. There was not an object on the San Juan available in the Model from which to deduct
this volume (3,282 ac-ft). Therefore, 1,317 ac-ft was taken from the Animas and the remainder
(1,965 ac-ft) was attributed to the Chaco.

Other off stream depletions identified:

5. Chaco River- approximately 4,608 ac-ft. ChacoRiverDivs:NonIR and IrSum were set to
zero in the Model and 4,608 ac-ft was subtracted from the AnimasToLaplataGains:Local
Inflow. We assume 1,965 ac-ft of this, accounts for the categorized baseline line item
depletions described above.

6. Whiskey Creek- 649 ac-ft. Unit8Depletions: NonIR and IrSum were set to zero in the
Model and subtracted from McElmoToBlufGains:LocalInflow.

7. Arizona- 12,419 ac-ft. ArizonaDepletions:NonIR and IrSumDepletion were set to zero in
the Model and subtracted from McElmoToBlufGains:LocaIInflow.

8. Utah- 10,929 ac-ft. Set to an average of 1705 ac-ft/year in UtahDepletions:IrSum and
set to zero in UtahDepletions:NonIrDepletion while 9,224 ac-ft was subtracted from
McElmoToBlufGains:Loca1Inflow.

Table 2-8 shows a summary of the identified off-stream depletions and the corresponding volume of
water accounted for in the gain loss files as well as objects adjusted. Chaco, Whiskey Creek, and
Arizona depletions were modified from what the USBR had originally configured in the Model for
1929 to 1969. To adjust the offstream depletions the corresponding depletions used in the derivation
of the Natural Flows had to be subtracted. This necessitates using the baseline model depletions for
1929 to 1974 and validation model depletions for 1975 to 1993. The 1929 to 1970 depletions were
adjusted based on information contained in The Comprehensive Framework Study, May I, 1969 by the
Soil Conservation Service. Since the USBR depletion pattern remains the same, the monthly values
were scaled to match the figures contained in the referenced document. Depletions for the post-1969
period were not modified but come from a combination of Baseline and Validation configuration
models.

The Utah depletions were modified for the 1929 to 1969 period based on data contained in The
Hydrologic Inventory of ColoradiJ, Dolores and San Juan Study Units, Utah Division of Water
Resources, September 1987. For Utah, the same monthly values were used each year. A main stem
irrigation depletion of 1705 ac-ft per year remains configured in the Model. Table 2-9 shows the
modified depletions based on the referenced documents distributed between M&I and Irrigation for
the pre- and post 70's periods.

DRAFT - SJRIP Hydrology Model Documentation
June 18, 1999

38
