The following are mitigation techniques that can be used in
landslide management. This is a detailed description of the
teChniques listed in section 5.0. The information for these
techniques was obtained from the most current natural hazard
literature available.

The format of the techniques includes a descriction, the
cC1mponents and the proceSs inv.;sl ved . wi th each type elf act ion..
The participants are the people who would generally be invoiveo
in the operation of that technique. Brief statements on tne
advantages and disadvantages of each technique are listed also.
The sections on who benefits and who pays lists the parties wno
can be affected by the teChnique. This addresses no only the
monetary aspect of the technique but other values as well, such
as aesthetics, health and safety and quality of life. The
Jurisdiction indicates a city, county or state that is currently
'~sing that type of technique in landslide ,"anagement. In s,:,me
cases no model jurisdictions were found in the literature.
