Valantine, Chief Engineer, <br />Colorado River Board of California, <br />at a May 9, 1985 hearing of the Subcommittee <br />on Water and Power Resources of the <br />House Committee on Interior and Insular Affairs <br /> <br />The representatives* of the seven Colorado River Basin <br /> <br />states have come to a unanimous position in support of House <br /> <br />Bill H.R. 1246, the Colorado River Floodway Protection Act, <br /> <br />introduced on February 25, 1985 by Congressman Richard Cheney <br /> <br />(Wyoming) and Congressman George Miller (California). In <br /> <br />developing this joint position, we have considered the <br /> <br />experiences of high flows on the Colorado River in 1983 and <br /> <br />1984, the multiple purposes for which the major reservoirs in <br /> <br />the Basin were built, and the various documents which make up <br /> <br />what are commonly referred to as the "Law of the River". <br /> <br />*Wesley E.
