Budget Decision Item Request: X
Capital Construction Request:
Project Description: A data-driven decision support system to provide those concerned with Colorado River issues a tool
for making informed and timely decisions regarding the operation of the river's water resources. The Colorado Decision Support
System will support interstate compact analysis, water resource managment and water rights administration using hardware and
software that supports a wide range of users with diverse needs.

~
Cl
'0
C.-J
.;..,
-.J

Technical Architecture: UNIX (brand: Silicon Graphics) workstations have served as the primary development
platform for the CRDSS relation databases, models and other tools. System Access is provided to PC through a wide area network or
internet capabilities. Though it is intended that the relational databases will continue to reside in the UNIX environment,
development emphasis is shifting to making more of the tools and models available to run locally on PC's, thus reducing the load on
the communication channels and workstations.

Benefits: Products have been developed that can be used by State agencies to put the state in a better position to
better manage its water resources, to provide better data for better decisions, and to resolve water disputes more efficiently.
Increased communication between water agencies.

Project Management: During Project development, state project management is provided by a team comprised of
members of the DWR and CWCB and headed by a contract project manager.

Communities of Interest: The system will be used by the Colorado Water Conservation Board, the Division of Water
Resources, water districts, and other water user groups, consultants, federal agencies, etc. Training has just been performed for a
variety of state and non-state users.

Date:

Format 7000, page 1 of 5

Revised 1996
