Ou2356

Resource Information

The BLM cites no conflicts in the Bill Hare and Larsen Creek
WSAS.4 The American Flats WSA has only a few conflicts.S Areas
near the WSA have been mined, and mining claims exist within its
original boundaries, However, these potential conflicts have been
eliminated by the boundary adjustments recommended in this
proposal.

Boundary Issues

The conservationists' boundary recommendations for these areas are
designed to eliminate all conflicts, and to provide for manage-
ability of the WSAs as additions to the Big Blue Wilderness Area.
The conservationists' proposal contains additional acreage on the
American Flats unit because the vehicle track that once existed in
the area has revegetated and can no longer be considered an
impact.

The proposed boundary follows the crest of a steep rise (the
Hinsdale/Ouray county line) on the west, to the Engineer Pass road
on the south, .thence easterly along the road to the headwaters of
Henson Creek, and back north to American Lake where it rejoins the
original WSA boundary. This boundary is readily identifiable in
the field,

4Gunnison Basin Draft Wilderness
Management, July 1982,

SIbid.

EIS, Bureau

of Land

S
