<br />.' 1,..."" <br /> <br />002209 <br /> <br />--, <br /> <br />Colorado-Ute <br /> <br />No further comments <br /> <br />PROJECT AREA ENVIRONMENT <br /> <br />Terrestrial - Dr. John Marr (CD) <br /> <br />Collections of plant specimens have been/are being made throughout <br />the year; identifications confirmed by Dr. William A. \,eber. <br /> <br />Threatened/endangered species: <br />ject area are noted in various <br /> <br />10 to 20 species observed on pro- <br />state, federal and university lists. <br /> <br />6 to 8 ecosystem types involved in project area. <br /> <br />(introduced as a squawfish expert by Roland Fischer) <br /> <br />h <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Aquatic - Dr. Robert Behnke (CSU) <br /> <br />Juniper has excellent potential for salmonid sport fishery; Yampa <br />River has minor value for fisheries but could be converted to a <br />large sport fishery; noted that emphasis on conversion to sport <br />fisheries has declined since 1973. <br /> <br />Within the sphere of influence of the project area are 4 rare fish <br />species. There is no way the dams wouldn't jeopardize the continued <br />existence of these species. Therefore the dams should be run to <br />simulate the natural situation. <br /> <br />Some of the largest squawfish occur in the project area but there <br />is no reproduction so these individuals will not be replaced when <br />they die. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Since there is no successful reproduction, the importance of the <br />Yampa is input into the Green River. <br /> <br />Terrestrial Wildlife - Dr. David Armstrong (CU) <br /> <br />There are in the project area: <br />6 species of amphibians <br />6 species of reptiles <br />60+ species of mammals <br />150+ species of birds <br /> <br />Their importance is: <br />economic <br />potential value to science and humanity <br />esthetic <br /> <br />4 <br />
