CO~l'E:nce Channel Water Hanagement Structures Three conveyance channel turnout structures each ,.nth a capacity to deliver 1,,500 acre-feet per year ,oJill be provided on the Alamosa N"R. One turnout structure will be located near the intersection of the conveyance channel and the Chicago ditch, while a second turnout structure will be near the Hum ditch. Both of these structures will divert waters from the channel by gravity. A third turnout structure loJill be located near the intersection of the conveyance channel and the Denver and Rio Grande railroad. Water diverted from this turnout will have to be punped. Two conveyance channel turnout struc tures wi th a total capacity of 800 acre-feet per year will be provided on the Blanca HHA. One turnout struc ture will be located on the Blanca mJA on the north edge or: the W. 1/2 sec. 4., T. 38 N., R. 12 E.; the second turnout will be located on southern portion of Blanca lfaA near the existing ~lallard 4 pond. Waters from the channel will be diverted by gravity. F. Replacement of Structures Some irrigation structures could be affected due to conveyance channel construction through Alamosa N"R. The conveyance channel would cross the Chicago and Hum ditches, two smaller canals, and one road in the Alamosa ~MR. The two ditches and two canals would be siphoned under the conveyance channel, while the channel ,;ould be siphoned under the road. In addition to turnou t structures describ~,d in section E above, a deep artesian well capable of deliv- ering 800 acre-feet of water in 90 days would be provided. Artesian water rights for the deep well would be transferred to Alamosa N"R after Emperious Estate lands are acqnired. A canal west of the third northernmost turnout cOllld be provided if the deep artesian well proved unfeasible. Apr"r:oximately 4,000 linear" feet or existing dikes and 10 ~waterfoHl nesting islands (which provide waterfowl habitat) will no longer be intensively managed as a result of conveyance channel construction through the Blanca Iffi.A. The project water to be nsed on Blanca mL<\ to mitigate dralo/down pumping effects resulting from the project should be delivered to these affected lands. To accomplish this purpose, approximately 3,400 linear feet of pipe lateral, 2,500 linear feet of ditches, and an energy dis>,Lpating pipe outlet structure will be needed to deliver conveyance channel water from the northern turnout"-to affected lands. Approximately 4,000 linear feet of dikes, 1,700 linear feet 00 '-, ditches, 150 linear feet of pipe lateral, and an energy dissipating pipe.ontlet structure will be needed to deliver water to affected lands. Ten duck-nesting .~ islands will also be provided. Funds to accomplish the construction of the above structures will be provided. G.
