P.E. <br />=.CWCB <br /> <br />STATEMENT OF DIRECTOR <br />COLORADO WATER CONSERVATION BOARD <br />TO THE <br />SUBCOMMITTEE ON PARKS, HISTORIC PRESERVATION AND <br />RECREATION <br />OF THE <br />SENATE COMMITTEE ON ENERGY AND NATURAL RESOURCES <br />UNITED STATES SENATE <br />ON S. 1424 <br />BLACK CANYON OF THE GUNNISON <br />NATIONAL PARK COMPLEX ACT <br /> <br />FIELD HEARINGS <br />MONTROSE, COLORADO <br />MAY31,1996 <br /> <br />Dear Mr. Chairman <br /> <br />My name is Randy Seaholm, Supervising Water Resource Specialist with the <br />Colorado Water Conservation Board (CWCB), I am testifying before you today on <br />behalf of the Director and Secretary of the Colorado Water Conservation Board, Daries <br />C, Lile. The CWCB is the water policy planning agency for the State of Colorado, The <br />CWCB has not yet adopted an official position on this Bill. However, the CWCB has <br />been actively involved with this legislative effort for a number of years and would like to <br />provide the Committee with the following observations, The CWCB hopes to provide <br />the Committee with formal written comments after its July meeting, <br /> <br />S. 1424 will create the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park Complex, <br />This will be achieved by redesignating the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National <br />Monument as the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park; creating the Gunnison <br />Gorge National Conservation Area on Bureau of Land Management lands downstream <br />and immediately adjacent to the new park; and incorporating these two areas with the <br />existing Curecanti National Recreation Area that surrounds the three reservoirs which <br />comprise the Aspinall Storage Unit of the Colorado River Storage Project located along <br />the Gunnison River immediately upstream of the proposed park. <br /> <br />onOS73 <br />
