<br />2883 <br /> <br />The Junction Creek Sandstone is typically exposed <br /> <br /> <br />~ opposite Animas City Mountain between Junction Creek and <br /> <br /> <br />the Animas River north of Durango. It is exposed in McElmo <br /> <br /> <br />Canyon (fig. 10) and in one small outcrop just south of <br /> <br />Figure 10 (caption on next page) belongs near here. <br /> <br />Sentinel Peak (fig. 2). <br /> <br />The Junction Creek Sandstone in McElmo canyon ranges <br />from white to pale red (10R6/2) to grayish orange pink <br />(10RS/2) to light brownish gray (5YR6/1). It is composed <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />of fine- to medium-grained poorly sorted subrounded to <br />rounded clear and frosted quartz with common liyht-red, <br />pink, green, and black accessory minerals. Medium to <br /> <br />coarse quartz grains are concentrated along the boundary <br /> <br /> <br />surfaces of the bedding planes (particularly in the cross- <br /> <br /> <br />bedded units) as well as being disseminated throughout the <br /> <br /> <br />finer grained material. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />s3 <br />
