<br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />2843 <br /> <br />nIT RODUCTION <br /> <br />Purpose and Scope of Investiqation <br /> <br />This investigation was made to determine the water <br /> <br />resources of the Ute Hountain Indli:lll Eeservation and to <br /> <br />aid in the development of additional water supplies for <br /> <br />don~stic use in the Towaoc area and for stock use through- <br /> <br />out the reservation. <br /> <br />The investigation was made by the <br /> <br />U.S. Geological Survey in cooperation with the Ute Mountain <br /> <br />Ute Tribe of Indians, Towaoc, Colo., and with the approval <br /> <br />of the U.S. Bureau of Indian ^ffairs. <br /> <br />The project \Vas <br /> <br />established by the Ute Mountclln Trlbal Council as a part <br /> <br />of the Ut.e Mountain Indian Rehabilit.ation Program. <br /> <br />The location of wLltcr supplies and development of <br /> <br />the meager supply to serve the Indian population through- <br /> <br />out their semiarid lands long has been a critical problem. <br /> <br />T1le invest.igatiOlo included a study of the geology and the <br /> <br />ground-water resources to ascertain the occurrence of <br /> <br />ground water and to assure its proper development. <br /> <br />1_, <br />.~ <br />
