",,-...,

~~~
UUT Cd..''-
.-.. --,
(d) Water Supply - The water provided annually to Alamosa
NWR will consist of 4,500 acre-feet from the project conveyance channel plus 800
acre-feet of water right transferred from the adjudicated water rights on the
Emperious Estate lands.
(3) Blanca Wildlife Management Area
(a)
acres of existing wetlands
feet of water annually.
Improvement of Habitat - Maintain and improve 198
of varying habitat value on Blanca WHA with 891 acre-
-,
PCj
, .
;"",
(b) Conveyance Channel Structures - Two conveyance channel
turnout structures with a total capacity of 800 acre-feet in a l80-day period
would be provided on the Blanca WHA. One turnout structure would be located on
the Blanca WHA on the north edge of the W. 1/2 sec. 4., T. 38 N., R 12 E., the
second turnout would be located on southern portion of Blanca WHA near the existing
Mallard 4 pond. Waters from the channel would be diverted by gravity.
(c) Other Structures - Approximately 4,000 linear feet
of existing dikes and 10 waterfowl nesting islands (which provide waterfowl habitat)
will no longer be intensively managed as a result of conveyance channel construction
through the Blanca WHA. The project water to be used on Blanca WHA to mitigate
drawdown pumping effects resulting from the project should be delivered to these
affected lands. To accomplish this purpose, approximately 3,400 linear feet of
pipe lateral. 2,500 linear feet of ditches, and an energy dissipating pipe outlet
structure would be needed to deliver conveyance channel water from the northern
turnout to affected lands. Approximately 4,000 linear feet of dikes, 1,700 linear
feet of ditches. 150 linear feet of pipe lateral and an energy dissipating pipe
outlet structure would be needed to deliver water to affected lands from the
southern turnout. Ten duck nesting islands would also be provided. Funds to
accomplish the construction of the above structures would be provided to the
Bureau of Land Management by the Bureau of Reclamation.
(d) Land Requirement - The W. 1/2 sec. 4., T. 38 N.,
R. 12 E., would be acquired in fee with appurtenant water rights to replace
lands BLM lost by conveyance channel construction, severance of additional lands
east of the channel and effects resulting from project pumping on Blanca WHA.
One artesian well with a capacity of 190 gallons per minute (gal/min) would be
needed to accomplish annual delivery of the adjudicated 307 acre-feet of water
right on the w. 1/2 sec. 4, T. 38 N., 12 E.
(e) Water Supply - Water provided annually to Blanca WHA
would be composed of 800 acre-feet from the project conveyance channel and 307
acre-feet of adjudicated water right from the W 1/2 sec. 4, T. 38 N., R. 12 E.
The total amount of water that would be annually removed for mitigation from the
conveyance channel will be 5,300 acre-feet. The remaining 1,107 acre-feet of
water annually required for mitigation would be obtained from land purchases
along with appurtenant water rights. A breakdown of water to be provided to
Alamosa NWR and Blanca WHA in the mitigation of project impacts is shown in
Table 8.
F\
rJ
I
~
~
r
, __21
