DIE.....n"IENT..1.

CC....IE..CNCIEN_ONI.V

.

GAME AND FISH DEPARTMENT

COLORADO

5 U..lIlECT...__.___...............................

- J -

These so-called improvements would be enlarging, straightening and
strengthening thP. banks of this stream so that it might carry increased
flows for short distances between power plant outlets and intakes.

2. Operation of power plants between Grant am South Platte, 8S listed
belCJ1'l':

Grant
Singleton
Shawnee - _ _ _
Insmont
Croasons
Resort Creek

1/2 mile below Gra.>'lt
1-1/2 miles above Shawnee
1-1/2 miles below Shawnee
Near Insmont
Near Crossons
At Resort Creek

Each power plant would discharge into thp. North Fork of the South
Platte, the tlow being picked up a ~hort distance below the discharge
point to enter a penstock above the next power plant. Losses to fish-
eries values lIOuld be considerable.

3. Construction of Shawnee reservoir one and a half miles below Shawnee,
wi th storage capacity of .50,000 acre feet.

Provided fluctuation is not too severe, this reservoir would partiAlly
replace the losses of I and 2 above.

4. COl18truction of Two Forks reservoir, one and a half miles below the
village of South Platte, wiUl 422,000 acre feet storage capacity and
201,000 acre feet possible flood contI't)1 storage. If filled, this res-
ervoir would cover the village of Deckers.

.
Severe fluctuation -would greatly reduce fisheries values; hOwevB', coo-
siderable use and berefit might develop despite such fluctuations.

5. Construction of Empire reservoir, on Clear Creek belOll' Fmpire, as an ex-
change storage reservoir with 17,000 acre feet capacity.

This reservoir would develop SOOB fisheries values and. would act liS a
settling basin for ma.terials dumped into the tributa1")' streams.

6. Chatfield reservoir, located on the South Platte river above Littleton,
am Cherry Creek reservoir, located on Cherry Creek above Denver, would
not be a part of this project but 1'lOuld probably be coordinated with it.

Each of these reservoirs, to be constructed by the Corps of Engineers,
would offer fair fisheries values, probably in thE> wana water field.

'l.<;'Q~
