Important phases of the "West Slope and
East Slope are listed separately below, with probable contribution of each
to fisheries values.

WESTERl SLOPE

1. Diversion of 112,500 acre feet annually, an average yearly nOl'l' of ap-
prorlJ!l8.tely 155 second feet, from the Eagle river and its tributaries
to the Blue reservoir am thence to the Eastern Slope.. Pickup of this
wnter 1K>u1d be accomplished by collecting systems on the upper Homestake
creek, upper Eagle rive!" and upper Gore and Black Gore creeks, such
systems connectine on the West Side of Vail Pass and passillf through a
tunnel into the Blue river drainage.

These stream losses lIQuId be frolJl the higher
are more stable and more suitable to trout.
would probably be severe.

2. Construction of Pando reservoir two miles south of Pando, with 62,000
acre feet storage capacity. This impound:nent lWOuld store water froD the
upper Homestake creek am Eagle river for diversion to the Eastern slope.

elevations, where flows
Detriment to these streams

Despite moderate fluctuations of water level within this reservoir, it
would have definite fishpries values.

3. Diversion of 15,&:>0 acre feet annually) an average yearly flow of approx-
imately 22 second feet, from the Piney river am its tributaries. This
would be accomplished by a collecting system froll Iloniger and lleadow
creeks ani the upper Piney river, connecting with previously mentioned
(item 1, above) collecting system from Gore and Black Gore creeks.

Loss in fisheries values would be moderate to severe in these streams,
depending upon diversion schedule.

h. Construction of Piney reservoir at present Piney Lake, with 24,300 acre
feet capacity.

The present Piney lake is a rood producer of Brook trout. Enlargement,
with attendant fluctuation, would possibly do more harm than good.

2566
