Each of these
rivers possesses one or more values that may be of national significance,
values that should be considered by user and manager alike. Federal
agencies have special responsibilities where their management practices,
proposed actions, or licensing functions could affect these streams.
The enclosed memorandum--published September 8, 1980, in the Federal
Register--should assist such agencies in identifying and meeting these
responsibilities.

The final list, and the invent~ry process itself, is meant to be dynamic.
Some qualified segments may have been omitted due to a lack of supporting
data and should be added in the future; conversely, some rivers on the
list may be dropped due to future disqualifying development in the
stream corridor or because evaluations indicate that the stream's values
are not, in fact, nationally significant. Be assured that any documenta-
tion--either proposing additions or recommending deletions--wil1 be
considered at such time as the list is to be revised.

I appreciate your interest in the Nationwide Rivers Inventory and thank
you for your past assistance.

Sincerely,

Albert G.
