<br />.ijS,'9.3 <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />DOLORES WATER CONSERVANCY DISTRICT <br />Resolution No. 5 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF THE UTE MOUNTAIN UTE TRIBE, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe has been a primary supporter and <br />participant in the Dolores and Animas/La Plata Projects; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, it has been and continues to be the intent of the Dolores <br />Water Conservancy District that Dolores Project water allocations to <br />the Tribe should be structured in a manner that makes water resource <br />development economically feasible for the Tribe; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Tribe, by cooperating with Dolores Water Conservancy <br />District and Montezuma Valley Irrigation Company on the combined <br />Highline Canal, has made it possible to meet Montezuma Valley salinity <br />control objectives, improve the Montezuma Valley Irrigation System, <br />and deliver tribal irrigation allocations at an estimated $9.6 million <br />_ savings to the Uni~~d States Government; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, it is imperative to the health and well-being of the Ute <br />Mountain Ute Tribe, and within the intent of the Dolores Project that <br />the Tribe have a reliable supply of high quality drinking water to replace <br />current substandard and inconsistent supply without undue financial <br />burden to the Tribe; and <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Dolores Project irrigation water, if provided under circumstances <br />that make irrigation development economically feasible, can provide the <br />intended benefits to the agricultural and economic base of the Tribe. <br /> <br />., <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Dolores Water Conservancy <br />District supports the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe in their efforts to secure <br />such a .share. as _necessary of. the $9.6 million in cost-savings to the <br />United States Government resulting from the Tribe's cooperation in the <br />combined Highline Canal to achieve the following: <br /> <br />1.
