0017J4

36.2--9

WATER INFORMATION MANAGEMENT SYSTEM HANDBOOK

(9) Multiply the TVC in column 8 by QB (in CFS) for the AcFt volume
of QL2' Record in column 9.

(10) Total the TVC and acre/feet volumes (columns 8 and 9) for QLl
and QL2 for an estimate of total baseflow volume (QL)'

f. Summary Maintenance Flow (calculation of total volume):

The maintenance flow requirements are summarized by the three primary
components at the bottom of the worksheet (ex. 3). The following are
recorded:

(

1. Total volume of bankfull flow (QB) in AcFt.

2. Total volume of rise-recession flow (1/2 QR) in AcFt.

3. Total volume of baseflow (Ql) in AcFt.

Sum these three component volumes for a total maintenance flow (QI)
volume in AcFt. Component volumes and total maintenance flow volume are
represented as percentages of total water yield.

With the completion of the calculation of the magnitude of channel
maintenance flows for the gaged station and the detennination of the Day 1
Index Point on the hydrograph, the rising, bankfull, and recession flow
components are scheduled. The flow rates for the individual rising or
step-up segments and their related durations are plotted as the beginning
portion of the channel maintenance flow hydrograph (ex. 4). Following the
last rising component step, the bankfull flow rate with its related
duration is plotted. A series of one-day recession flow segments are then
plotted. The recession flow segments have 1 day durations at flow rates
as commensurate with the rising flow rates as practicable.

The remaining portion of the channel maintenance flow hydrograph consists
of the baseflow flow rates and durations. The baseflow.levels are
plotted, with user discretion, on each side of the rise-bankfull-recession
components with levels representing both QLl and Ql2 (ex. 4).

STEP 3. Point of Quantification Maintenance Flow Estimation Worksheet.

a. In sec. 36.1, appendix A, bankfull disharge for a point of
quantification was estimated using five different methods. For this
worksheet example, a bankfull discharge of 185.8 cfs as calculated from
Method A will be used to estimate the maintenance flow requirements for a
point of quantifi, ation called Gold Creek.

ID No. 1
9/10/85
