Bankfull stage at the gaging stations will be extrapolated to the <br />station staff gages from adjustable (uncontrolled) channel reaches through <br />the use of a surveyor's level and stadia rod. <br /> <br />( <br /> <br />7. The channel cross sectional area will be measured using the level <br />and stadia approach. <br /> <br />Following is the stepwise analysis: <br /> <br />Step 1 - The needed data are found in exhibit 1. <br /> <br />Step 2 - Using the stage-discharge records for the representative station <br />and field measurements, the cross sectional area of an uncontrolled stream <br />reach is determined for bankfull discharge. Using the same approach the <br />discharge filling the thalweg channel is also determined. <br /> <br />Water surface slope is measured for the bankfull discharge stage only. The <br />results of this step are: <br />QB - 173.0 cfs <br />QL1 - 5.0 cfs <br />S - 0.0046 <br /> <br />Step 3 - Discharge, cross-sectional area and water surface slope of <br />channels at bankfull stage are measured or extracted from the station <br />records of all suitable stations.
