002428

Durango Pumoing Plant - Stage 1

f. Replace, when directed, inadequate transporting equipment (buckets,
chutes, hoppers, pumps, transit mix trucks, and other equipment) with
acceptable equipment that can readily handle and place concrete of the
specified slump.

3.03 PLACING AND CONSOLIDATING CONCRETE

A. Placing

1. Do not place concrete in standing water.

2. Do not place concrete in running water or subject concrete to running water until
after it has hardened.

3. Deposit concrete as nearly as practical in its final position and do not allow it to
flow in such a manner that the lateral movement will cause segregation of the
coarse aggregate from the concrete mass.

4. Employ methods and equipment in depositing concrete in forms that minimize
clusters of coarse aggregate. Scatter clusters that occur before the concrete is
vibrated.

5. Place and consolidate concrete in approximately horizontal layers not exceeding
depths of 20 inches. The Contracting Officer reserves the right to reduce layer
depth to facilitate placement and consolidation.

6. Provide exposed construction joints which are straight and level or plumb except
as shown otherwise on the drawings.

7. Prevent featheredges at construction joints on intersecting sloping exposed
concrete surfaces less than 50 degrees or more than 130 degrees except as shown
otherwise on the drawings. The inclined surfaces shall extend into the concrete a
minimum of 3 inches.

8. For all concrete placements:

a. Vibrate the concrete immediately above the joint with twice as much time
and effort as normally needed for concrete of that consistency, to facilitate
consolidation and bond at construction joints, or

9. Time between adjacent placements: See Section 03150 - Joints, Grooves, and
Edges in Concrete.

10. If concrete is placed mono1ithically around openings having vertical dimensions
greater than 2 feet, or if concrete in slabs or other similar parts of structures is
placed monolithically with supporting concrete:

a. Place concrete up to the top of the formed openings at which point further
placement will be delayed to accommodate settlement of fresh concrete.

b. Ifbevels are specified beneath nearly horizontal structural members such
as slabs, such bevels being between the nearly horizontal members and the
vertical supporting concrete below, place concrete to the bottom of the
bevels before delay of placement.

Cast-in-Place Concrete
03300.24
