Contractor is responsible for the specified quality and grading of all deposits <br />selected. <br /> <br />8. Government may test sand during processing. <br /> <br />9. Final acceptance will be based on samples taken at the batch plant. <br /> <br />10. Provide convenient facilities for safely procuring representative samples of sand <br />at the sand processing plant and at the batch plant. <br /> <br />H. Coarse Aggregate <br /> <br />I. ASTM C 33, No. 3(2 inch to I inch) and No. 57 (I inch to No.4). <br /> <br />2. Delivered to the batch plant with uniform and stable moisture content. <br /> <br />3. When crushed rock is used: <br /> <br />a. Do not use jaw crushers except as a primary crusher. <br /> <br />b. No more than 30 percent particles with a maximum to minimum <br />dimension of 3 to 1. <br /> <br />4. Quality, as batched <br /> <br />a. Clean, hard, dense, durable, uncoated rock fragments. <br /> <br />b. Los Angeles abrasion loss: <br /> <br />I) Determine in accordance with ASTM C 13 I using grading A. <br /> <br />2) Ten percent maximum loss of weight at 100 revolutions, or 40 <br />percent maximum loss of weight at 500 revolutions. <br /> <br />c. Sodium sulfate test for soundness <br /> <br />1) Determine in accordance with ASTM C 88, Sodium Sulfate <br />Solution. <br /> <br />2) Twelve percent maximum weighted average loss, by weight, after <br />five cycles. <br /> <br />d. Specific gravity <br /> <br />1) Determine in accordance with ASTM C 127, saturated, surface-dry <br />basis. <br /> <br />2) Minimum: 2.60. <br /> <br />e.
