All comments
within curly brackets will be ignored by RSS. All comments within the square
brackets (while being outside the curly brackets I) will be written to a file each
time the policy statement is called and executed during a simulation, This
feature of RSS can provide a record of the sequence of policy statement opera-
tions for examination following a simulation,

Policy statement
name

The name of the policy statement follows the keyword POLICY in the header of
the policy statement. The policy name can be any string of alphanumeric char-
acters that will help the writer or user of the model identify or classify the policy
statement. Each policy statement requires a name but the name is not used by
the RSS program itself,

To-determine

Each statement is written to define how the value of a variable is to be deter-
mined. The name of the variable can be the name of an object slot variable, or
of any other user defined variable. RSS object variables that the user can
change using policy statements are contained in Table 1, No periOdS can be
included in the variable name. The name of the variable to be determined will
not include the object name, For example, if the outflow (or release) from a

Operation Policies in RSS

21
