The user selects from a list those districts s/he wishes to be
displayed.

Upon activating the Okay button on the Preferences dialog. the GU! calls the func-
tion SetAllowedDistricts (int argc, int argv [] ) .
.j
The selected districts determine what diversion structures and gauges are displayed on
the graphical map and in the tabular lists. They also affect the display of calls in
Query/Call Chronology. Finally, since the selected districts limit the display of
diversion structures and gauges for the display selection through some of the other
query dialogs, such as Query/Gauged Data and QuerylDiversions. is also limited.

The Preferences dialog allows users 10 specify-from a list of available map layers-
the desired map layers to be displayed in the graphical map display.

Upon activating the Okay button on the Preferences dialog. the GU] calls the func-
tion GetCurrentlySelectedMapLayers () .

The selected map layers detennine only the layers that are displayed on the graphical
map display. Whether or not the structures layer is selected, for example, does not
affect the user's ability to pick a structure from the map or from the tabular list.

One of the options available to users on the Preferences dialog is to save the chosen
preferences. Upon activating the Save button, the GUT creates the file .rights.re in the
home directory of the user, storing all of the information in the Preferences dialog.

The format of the preferences file is not presented here because it is not advised to
modify the contents of this file by editing it directly. This file is created by the func-
tion SavePreferences (). During system initialization, the function Read-
Pre ferences () reads the saved file and uses the contents to establish the initial
state of preferences for the system. If the file is not present in the home directory of
the user, a default set of preferences is used. The algorithm which parses the contents
to the preferences file is unsophisticated; therefore, it is unwise to modify this file in
any way. Corrupting the fonnat of the preferences file may prohibit the user from
starting SPWRMS.

Hydrograph Plotting

SPWRMS hydrograph plotting allows users to retrieve satellite-transmitted gauge
data from the database and display this infonnation as a graph or a table. The user
may chose a gauge from the graphical map display or from the tabular list. An aver.
aging interval, which determines the time period used for data aggregation, may also
be chosen. The application then creates the display of the desired type.

The application uses the in-memory network graph only for selection of the gauge.
All other steps of the process involve retrieving data from the database for the selected
gauge(s), then averaging, fonnatting, and displaying the data.
