<br />002413 <br /> <br />v, <br /> <br />STATE OF COLORADO WEATHER MODIFICATION NETWORK <br /> <br />Colorado has a high proportion of the public and private weather modification <br /> <br /> <br />expertise in the nation. The Department of Natural Resources Weather <br /> <br />Modification Program interacts with members of this weather modification <br /> <br /> <br />community on a number of different levels. These include those whose livelihood <br /> <br /> <br />results from the study or utilization of the technology such as representatives <br /> <br /> <br />of Federal mission agencies, state agencies, institutions of higher education, <br /> <br />private weather modification firms and manufacturers of cloud seeding supplies. <br /> <br /> <br />In addition, the Department interacts with water interest and user groups, state <br /> <br />and county organizations, municipalities, and private citizens interested in <br /> <br /> <br />research projects and commercial application of cloud seeding in the state. <br /> <br />Federal Offices in Colorado and State Offices <br /> <br />Federal organizations with weather modification offices in Colorado include the <br /> <br />Bureau of Reclamation, the National Center for Atmospheric Research, and the <br /> <br /> <br />National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. <br /> <br />The Colorado State University (CSU) Department of Atmospheric Sciences has a fine <br /> <br /> <br />reputation, claims many well-qualified scientists, and conducts a number of cloud <br /> <br />seeding experiments in the state. Past CSU studies include Climax I and II, <br /> <br /> <br />downwind effects in Park County and seeding material dispersion and cloud <br /> <br /> <br />microphysics studies conducted in Routt County. Sponsors of the recent CSU field <br /> <br /> <br />program include the National Science FoundationJ Bureau of ReclamationJ National <br /> <br /> <br />Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and the Colorado Commission on Higher <br /> <br />Education. Cloud research and seeding material tests are conducted 1n the cloud <br /> <br />simulation chamber at CSU. Students and professors offer papers regularly at <br /> <br /> <br />American Meteorological Society (AMS) and other professional weather modification <br /> <br /> <br />meetings. <br /> <br />23 <br />
