MAY-31-94 TUE 15:49

P.DS

OUi.' ?')O
....

4. A task memorandum describing and summarizing Task 1.06 activities and results.

User Involvement

1. Two meetings with userS to discuss spatial data requirements and database design.

2. Briefing RooID demonstrations to users of spatial database capabilities.

Responsibility

Luis Garcia will be the Task Leader.

Work Plan

Subtask 1. Populate the spatial data (this applies to data types identified in Task Memorandwn 1.06-
I). Different sources of spatial data for particular data \ypes were reviewed in Phase I, and the
information was cross-referenced with the model requirements (spatial resolution, precision,
projection, etc.) in order to select the best source of data. .

Subtask 2, Migrate the section, township. and range data froIll INFORMlX Geoloc table to
ARCJINFO and create a coverage in the spatial database which links the .palial database to the
physical characteristics database.

Sllmaslc 3. Finalize the dalllbase design. The design will tal::e into account the need for data acress
and screen and hard copy display of spatial data. The spatial database design and construction will
utilize ARClINFO as the GIS software to import data but will use the GIS software GRASS for
modeling and data viewing by the IISer.

Subtask 4, Install GRASS 4.1 on the SOl and port and update existing GRASS 4.0 functions to
GRASS 4.1 on the SGI in a library format, .

Sum.slc 5. Performance of quality control checks on spatial data as the database is populated.
Quality control procedures will include displaying of multiple data layers overlaid with one another
IiJ check fOt' proper gco..registration and spot checking of a few individual data values in each data
layer. The use of these data in modeling tasks will provide additional quality control.

SlIbtask 6. Develop spatilll data access procedures, A simple visual display tool usini II GUI will be
developed to enable the user to display point, line, and raster data using the GIS software GRASS.

Subt.sk 7. Develop DMls to retrieve data stored in the relational database (physical characteristics,
station, and historical) corresponding to locations displayed in the visual display liJol.

Subtask: 8. ProdllCe hard copy maps. Produce approximately 20 hard copy color maps (not to ell:ceed
three different types) in an estimated size of 24" x 36", for lL,e in the user/public involvement

oU1S0J.IU,J14

2-21
