001973

SEGMENT B

Segment. B is that portion of the Green RiveX' from the BLM boat ramp at
Indian Crossing downstream to the Gates of Lodore in Dinosaur National
Monument. This segment, commonly referred to as Browns Park, is 32 1Ili1es
long.

CollllDel1ts

The atudy team has determined that Segment B qualifies for inclusion in
the National Wild and Scenic Rivers System. The basis for this deter-
mination is the outstandingly remarkable recreational, wildlife, historic
and cultural values found in and along the segment, The segment was
found to meet the criteria for recreational classification.

The major concerns relevant to designating this segment of the Green are:
a) What effect would designation of this segment have on the
current management of lands administered by the Bureau of
Land Management in the area?
b) What effect would designation of this segment have on the
State of Utah Waterfowl Management Area and the U. S. Fish
and Wildlife Service Wildlife Management Area located along
this segment?
c) What effect would designation of this segment have on private
lands located along this segment of the river?

inclUSion in the National syst~m would offer Segment B ~reater protection,
than currently exists. Also, designation of Segment B w9uld constitute
a unique and valuable addition to the National Wild and~cenic Rivers
System. Management as a recreational river would be compatible with
mansgement of Utah's Browns Park State Waterfowl Management ~ea and the
U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service's Browns Park National Wildltfe Refuge.
Recreational designation would complement management plans for ~ands
a1on~ the river administered by the Bureau of Land Management and waul.
not cOnflict with current use of private lands in the area.

i

Your views on the concerns for this segment are welcome.

Alternatives,

For that portion of the Green P~ver in Browns Park, two alternative plana
are suggested.

Alternative B-1

Take no action. No additional protection offered to the outstandingly
remarkable recreational, wildlife, historic and cultural values found

7
