<br />002712 <br />2.0 ~B~I~~~E_~~~I~_~BE~~ <br /> <br />Dowds Junction is at the intersection of Interstate 70 and u.s. <br />24 as well as at the confluence of Gore Creek with the Eagle River. The <br />Eagle River is tributary to the Colorado River at Dotsero and is the <br />principal drainage in Eagle County. A map of the drainage basin is shown <br />in Figure 1. <br /> <br />2.1 @Q[~_Q[~~k_~g2!n <br /> <br />Gore Creek has a drainage area of 102 <br />confluence with the Eagle River. Elevations in the <br />7700 to 13100 feet. The total drainage area downstream of Gore Creek is <br />362 square miles. Elevations in the Eagle River basin range from 7700 <br />feet to 13657 feet at Mt. Jackson. The towns of Minturn (population <br />1060) and Redcliff (population 409) are located in the Eagle River Basin <br />above Dowds Junction. The communities of Avon (population 640), Eagle <br />(population 801) and Gypsum (population 743) are located in Eagle County <br />downstream of Dowds Junction. <br /> <br />3.0 HI~IQBIQ~b_B~~QEE <br /> <br />A review of the historical records for the Gore Creek and Eagle <br />River basins was made to better understand the hydrological relationships <br />between known flows measured in the upper parts of the basin and at <br />Dowds Junction. This involves looking at what stream gaging records are <br />available, determining when floods have occurred in the past, estimating <br />their magnitudes, and determining the volume of water that passes through <br />Dowds Junction during the spring. <br /> <br />J <br />
