002735

ASSUMED FLOOD DEPTHS BELOW DOWDS JUNCTION

(Dam Height = 340 Feet)

MILES PERCENT OF ASSUMED
REACH BELOW DAM DAM HEIGHT DEPTH
----------- --------- ----------
Dam to 1-70 0-2 60 200
1-70 to Sect 11 2-5 50 160
S 11 to Wilmor 5-10 35 120
Wilmor to Wolcott 10-15 25 80
Wolcott to Eagle 15-25 15 60
Eagle to Gypsum 25-32 10 40

The flood depths could range from 200 feet at Dowds Junction to 40
feet on the Eagle-to-Gypsum stretch of the Eagle River. These depths are
only approximate based on many assumptions of dam failure, soil
conditions and limited information on the topography of the area.
Preliminary dam failure maps for the Eagle River valley have been
prepared and are attached to this report.

5.2 Im~g"!_QQ_nQ~Q~!rggm_~QmmYQ!!!g2

The maps indicate the Eagle Valley would be completely flooded from
side to side between Dowds Junction and Red Canyon, about 20 miles
downstream. This reach includes the communities of Avon, Edwards,
Wilmor, and Wolcott. Floodwater at Eagle and Gypsum is not expected to
reach the other settled areas south of the railroad tracks. New
subdivisions at Gypsum north of the river could be flooded. Damage to
the interstate could be severe from Dowds Junction to Red Canyon. US 6,
US 24 and the railroad could be totally inundated from Dowds Junction to
Eagle, about 25 miles downstream.
