<br />ODJ482 <br /> <br />" <br /> <br />" <br /> <br />, <br />. <br /> <br />FRUITLAND MESA PROJECT <br /> <br />Tnis project is located in Montrose, Delta, and Gunnison <br /> <br />Counties soutn of Crawford, Colorado. Water will be provided from <br /> <br />Soap, Curecanti and Crystal Creeks; all tributaries of tne Gunnison <br /> <br />River. This water will be utilized for recreation, fiah and wildlife, <br /> <br />and irrigation. <br /> <br />Tne Feasibility Report on the project was completed in <br /> <br />February 1962. Fruitland Mesa Project was authorized September 2, <br /> <br />1964, as a participating project of the Colorado River Storage Project <br /> <br />by Public Law 88-568 (78 Stat. 852). Tne Definite Plan Report was <br /> <br />completed by the Bureau of Reclamation in June 1967. <br /> <br />A repayment contract waG executed with the Fruitland Mesa <br /> <br />Water Conservancy District on June 25, 1969. The District approved <br /> <br /> <br />allotments of water to the private lands on March 10, 1972. These <br /> <br />allotments were for 38,024 acre-feet of project water leaving 19,876 <br /> <br />acre-feet out of the total of 57,900 acre-feet for allotme~t to public <br /> <br />land. <br /> <br />The plan for the project includes construction of the Soap <br /> <br />Park Dam and Reservoir on Soap Creek with a capacity of 48,000 acre-feet; <br /> <br />Black Mesa Conduit about 11 miles long including an 8-mile tunnel, to <br /> <br />carry water from Soap Creek and Curecanti Creek to Crystal Creek, Fruitland <br /> <br />Canal, 21 miles long, to serve the new public land area; replacement <br /> <br />of two siphons on the Gould Canal; and other minor structures. <br /> <br />, <br /> <br />. <br />
