Minimum length is ~rescribec1 only for wild <br />rivers -- 5 miles. In oeneral, the criteria are similar to t~osP in the <br />National wile' and Scenic pivers ~ct, <br /> <br />l'ncler the Fild, Scenic ar.d Recreational Rivers System )l.C"t, the r.olIT1'issi(')ner <br />of the Department of Fnvirol1l1'ental Conser"atkn (!'SC) is respcnsitlp for <br />administration of the act nutsie'e of the siy million acre ~rirondilcY Park. <br />viithin the Park, DF'C is responsil::le for thcse rivprs fl(,)I,'inq on publk "forever <br />wild" Forest Preserve land and the ~,dironnack Park l'gency is resr'Onsible for <br />those on private land. <br /> <br />Sections of 15 rivers, totalinq 172 miles, in the ndirondac~ Par~ ~~re <br />desionated into the state system in 1977 with the passaae of the enahlino act. <br />In 1Q75, sections of 55 rivers in the Park, total inn 1,027 miles were afc1ec. <br />C'utside of the Pilrk, sections of seven rivers, tntalina ~9 miles, have heen <br />desiqnated. ~be statewide total is 1,228 miles, one of thE laraest wilc1, scenic <br />and recreational rivers systems in the ration. <br /> <br />The t1<lO principal rivers olltside of the Jldironc'lark Perk tbat have been <br />designated are on Long Island--the CarMens and the Connetquot. Upon <br />des i<mat ion, a l"Ora tor iurr, was declared on developnent in the corridors, the <br />hcundaries of which were subsequently fixed h', Co~issicner's Order. ~his will <br />stay in effert until DFC's statewic1e reaulation and lann use auidelines are <br />adopted and, subseauently, a manoaement plan and individual river requaltions <br />are completed, <br /> <br />wi~~in the Adirondack Park, reaulations were adopted hy the Adirondack Park <br />Aoency in 197h. Tl:ese were inte0rated with the Asen~"s overall reaulations for <br />the Priv~te land Master Plan for the Adirondack Park.
