f" u

1.0 Getting Started

1.2 Installation

1.2.1 Roles & Responsibility

The SOl SPWRMS application is distributed 10 SEO machines via
FTP. FTP is a UNIX file transfer utilily which allows the application
to be moved from the CADSWES development environment to the
SEO Unix workstations. The installation procedure will be managed
by CADSWES throughoullhe contract mainlenance agreement.
Once SEO takes over support for the SPWRMS application, inslalla-
tion will be managed by SEO using technical documentation pro-
vided by CADSWES in the form of a Programmers Manual.

1.2.2 Software Requirements

The SOl SPWRMS application relies on access to the Soulh Plaue
Informix database. This access may be direct 10 the database engine
Infonnix Online or may be client access via Infonnix INET.

SGI-SPWRMS has been developed using the Motif graphical inter-
face library. This development palh does nOl restrict Ihe SOl user 10
running the Motif Window Manager, however, since Motifis based on
the X-graphics prolocol, the window manager used for running the
SGI SPWRMS application must be X-Windows compliant.

Although SOI-SPWRMS displays inaps which are in binary Arc/Info
format, the ArclInfo GIS product is not required for running Ihe
SPWRMS application. The display and management of spatial data is
handled entirely by the SPWRMS application.

1.2.3 User Setup

The only requirement for seuing up a UNIX user to run the
SPWRMS application is 10 add the location of the SPWRMS execut-
able to the user's path. The best way to set the palh is 10 modify the
user's.cshrc file 10 include:

set path = ($path /usr/projectls_plaue/bin)

In this example /usr/projectls_plaue is Ihe installation localion for the
SPWRMS application. Of course, the path should refiecl the aClual
installation location. This example assumes thai the user is running
the c-shell. If another UNIX shell is used, the syntax for selting the
path may vary.

7/31/94

2
