17

PROPOSED DEVELOPMENTS AND ANTICIPATED BENEFITS

,r
\-

The point of diversion of Rangely Ditch is to be changed and

water lifted from the river by several individual pump installations

rather than by direct diversion.

Water lifted from the river by pumps is to be conveyed by

an elevated ditch or flume of sufficient height to allow water to

flow from ~he pump directly to the point of distribution.

Viater rights now held in group ownership are to be transfer-

,
red to individual ovmers.

,.
. )

The installation of pumping equipment on these ditches will

do much t9f~l~minate present uncertain water deliveries. The

~

delivery of water by pumping probably will result in a higher water

cost per acre irrigated than formerly experienced under the gravity

diversion system. However, it is the belief of local operators that

these increased. costs will be compensated to a large extent by the

reduction in maintenance costs by the abandorunent of the present

long' and exp8nsive ditch system, and they will have tho assurance

of a dependable water supply. In order for present operators to

, obtain some idea of the cost of water which will result when the

proposed changes are made, and the possible savings or reductions

in these costs by the sfficient use of tho water pumped, a cost

/'"
.~

analysis of pumping water is included in this plan.

0815
