<br />- "! ,. <br /> <br />explain the urgent reasons for continuing the project construction. <br />My primary purpose here today is to express the continuing support of <br />the Governor's office and the Colorado General Assembly for the early <br />construction of this project. This project also has the complete <br />support of the Colorado Water Conservation Board, which has studied <br />this project now for many years. It has the support of a great majority <br />of the people of the Uncompahgre Valley as evidenced by the repayment <br /> <br />contract vote of about nine to one. <br /> <br />At the Grand Junction meeting last week, I went into some detail <br /> <br /> <br />about the history of reclamation projects here in western Colorado and <br /> <br /> <br />the need for their construction. I see no point in burdening this <br /> <br /> <br />Committee with a repetition of some of the issues previously raised. <br /> <br /> <br />The Dallas Creek, like the others in western Colorado, is part of a <br /> <br /> <br />larger plan for the stable and orderly development of this area. <br /> <br /> <br />I therefore urge that this Committee inform the President that no <br /> <br /> <br />valid reason exists why the construction of this project should not <br /> <br />continue as planned. <br /> <br />;. <br />25'49 <br /> <br />-6- <br />
