Grande Valley. Cengress autherized <br /> <br />the: Bure-au'ef Reclil!lla,t'wn, to. biJild the project to. assist' .Celerade, 'New <br /> <br />Mexico. and Texas with their water needs. Censtruction ef the preject <br /> <br />will previde water to. help Celerade meet its annual water delivery ebli- <br /> <br />gatiens under the Rio. Grande Cempact and previde additienal water for <br /> <br />use in the Rio. Grande Basin. The preject includes water fer wildlife <br /> <br />purpeses and previde ether wildlife benefits and recreatienal epper- <br /> <br />tunities. <br /> <br />Seme ground water is new being lest by evaperatien. This water will <br /> <br />be pumped frem abeut 170 wells, cenveyed threugh pipelines to. a 42-mile <br /> <br />leng canal, and delivered to. the Rio. Grande River. Many ef these wells <br /> <br />and pipelines and..,parts' ef the ,canal 'will' be 1ecated en what 'is 'new <br /> <br />pr,ivate land. Private land will be purchased fer preject purpesed when' <br /> <br />necessary. Where land to. be used fer the preject is ewued by the State, <br /> <br />the State will previde the necessary land fer the facilities. <br /> <br />The Bureau of Reclamatien intends to. keep ewuers and the public infermed <br /> <br />as the preject deve1epes.
