Beaver Creek

Hydrologic Characteristics

Beaver Creek is a perennial stream fed by an extensive area of springs, seeps,
and wetlands upstream from the WSA. Peak flows from snowmelt occur during April
and May. The Division of Water Resources reports that this stream typically
flows at 3 to 5 cfs during the irrigation season after peak flows in April and
May. The stream is not gauged or measured regularly, so BLM staff have
constructed a synthetic hydrograph of the creek using the methodology outlined
in an appendix to this report. (See attached figure.) The synthetic hydrograph
demonstrates water made available in the stream from rain and snow runoff, and
does not incorporate the atypical groundwater flows described above.

Water Rights Located UDstreaJIJ of WSA

Allen Ditch No.
irrigation use.
WSA boundary.

Water rights are held by private landowners on 48 springs, with 1.4424 cfs total
flows. Private landowners also hold water rights on 13 reservoirs, with a total
storage capacity of 14.6 acre feet. The primary uses of the springs and
reservoirs are livestock watering.

1 - T12N R103W, Sec. 29, SE SE; 2.0 cfs; 1982 adjudication;
This water is located approximately five miles upstream from the

The BLM holds water rights on 29 springs, with 0.275 cfs total flows. The BLM
also holds a water right on one reservoir, with 1.0 acre feet storage capacity.

Water Rights Located Within WSA

United States, 0.02 cfs, 1933 priority. The United States holds an appropriative
streamflow right through the entire WSA for livestock watering, wildlife
watering, recreation, and fire suppression purposes. The Colorado Supreme Court
decreed these rights to the United States in 1978 as part of a comprehensive
adjudication of the United States' reserved and appropriative water rights.

BLM Springs - Ten springs, 0.110 cfs total flow, livestock and wildlife uses.

Water Rights Located DaomstrelUll of WSA

(to confluence with Green River)

A total of 58.84 cfs of water rights is diverted through 12 ditches, serving
irrigation and fisheries uses. Most of these rights are held by the U.S. Fish
and Wildlife Service to provide water for Browns Park National Wildlife Refuge.

41
