Gunnfson ~
National Forests. You may recall that the Forest Management-,plan
produced for these forests was one of the first plans nationally and was
regarded as an important, highly controversial, precedent-setter. The
state appealed the Forest Management Plan and later settled.
Envionmentalists appealed the Plan all the way to the Chief of the U.S.
Forest Service, and the Plan was remanded back to the Forest with
instructions to re-evaluate the demand and benefit studies and make them
clearer to the public.

I am sendin9 you the attached re-analysis document for your
review. An Environmental Impact Statement will be completed later this
spring incorporating this material. Because of the precedent-setting
nature of this re-analysis, I think we should give it a review in these
early stages to see if we agree with their methodology, particularly in
calculating water yield and wildlife benefits.

---~
I have asked Laurie ~-to'-'C%l'dlna't~ is project.
