ENVIRONMENTAL SeOPING MEETINGS ANNOUNCED FOR PROPOSED CONTRACT
TO DELIVER WATER TO THE 8LACK CANYON OF THE GUNNISON NATIONAL MONUMENT

Public meetings will be held May 19-21, 1992, to receive the public's

initial input for the proposed contract to deliver water from the Wayne N.

Aspinall Unit (Unit) (Blue Mesa, Crystal, and Morrow Point Reservoirs) of the

Colorado River Storage Project to the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National

Monument (Monument).

The contract would guarantee a water supply for the Monument from Blue
Mesa Reservoir to protect the Monument's resources while allowing the Unit to
continue to meet its authorized purposes, including recreation, fish and
wildlife, water conservation and storage, and hydropower production. It is
expected that river flows in the Gunnison River will change as a result of the
contract.

The meetings will enable the public to identify issues and concerns they
have regarding this contract, and to suggest possible alternatives.
Alternatives suggested by the public will be considered along with
alternatives developed by the Bureau of Reclamation, National Park Service,
Bureau of Land Management, Fish and Wildlife Service, and Colorado Water
Conservation Board, the agencies cooperating in the development of the
contract. Written comments about the proposed contract will also be accepted
until July 15, 1992, by the Bureau of Reclamation, P.O. Box 60340, Grand
Junction, Colorado 81506.

It is necessary to attend only one of the meetings which will be held:

Tuesday, May 19, 1992, at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at the Gunnison
County Fairgrounds, Multipurpose Room, 275 South Spruce,
Gunnison, Colorado;
Wednesday, May 20, 1992, at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. in the
Pavilion, 1800 Pavilion Drive, Montrose, Colorado; and
Thursday, May 21, 1992, at 7:30 p.m. at the Columbine Senior
Services_Building, 247 Meeker, Delta, Colorado.
