Check the Disable Call Waiting box in the Pref.
erences dialog. and the application will turn off call waiting tempo-
rarily. Call waiting will be enabled again once you hang up the phone.

5.2.4 Connecting and Hanging up
When you know that you want to access a menu item requiring a
server connection, you can dial by selecting Dial from the Com-
munications menu, and typing your login and passworduu~
Login dialog. SPWRMS will store your login name (but not your
password!) from session to session. All items under the Query and
What If menus require a connection to the server, as do-the Edit!
Calls and Edit!Checksheet menu items. Although you may edit
a local disk copy of the Water Information Sheet. in order to submit a
new sheet, or to load the latest copy of one from the database, you
will need to dial up to the SPWRMS server. If you select a menu item
or click a button that requires a modem connection to the server,
SPWRMS will prompt you to dial. Waiting as long as possible to dial
will help minimize traffic on the modem lines to the Denver and
Greeley offices, and help reduce long distance costs as well.
s.,-
The dialing and login sequence takes from 45Seconds to one and a
half minutes. During this time a call progress window will keep you
posted as to what the hardware and software are doing. To abon the
dial sequence during dialing. click the cancel button on the Login dia-
log.

The Connection Timer

As soon as the PC-SPWRMS application connects to the server's
modem, you will see the Connection Timer dialog. The connection
timer keeps track of the length of your phone call, and a1ens you
when you have been inactive for a cenain period of time. If you do
not respond to the warning, the application will eventually hang up
the phone. This time-out feature is designed to avoid unnecessary
long distance charges, and to avoid tying up the few modem lines
available in Greeley and Denver. You can set the amount of time for
the application to wait before warning you and before actually hang.
ing up. To set the timer options, either click on the Auto. Hangup
button in the Preferences dialog, or click on the Options button in
the Connection Timer dialog itself.

Should you wish to close the Connection Timer dialog, make sure it
is active by clicking the mouse on it, and then press the escape key.

13

7/31/94
