MONTHLY REPORT SAN LUIS VALLEY PROJECT, COLORADO AUGUST 1955 Rio Grande Division On August 11th, the Project Manager attended the regular monthly meeting of the Board of Direotors of the San Luis Valley Water Conservanoy Distriot. The Rio Grande Compact was disoussed at length ss was the status of the proposed report on the Rio Grande and l'lem1nuche Pass Divisions of the San Luis Valley Project. and 113 report The Regional Hydrologist visited the Project on August 17 to assist in the revision of the appendix on water for the on this division. Projeot personnel spent most of the month workin~ on the revision of the Supplemental Report on the Rio Grande and 'IIeminuohe Pass Divisions of the Sen Luis Valley Project. Closed Basin D~vision A rough estimate wss made of the possible capacity in Lost Lake which could be used as a sump or regulating reservoir for a drainage Boheme in the Closed Basin. The natural stream channel from Russel Lakes to Coloradc Highwsy No. 17 ~s inspected during the month. Contact prints were ordered of aerial photos of the area. The fluctuations of the ground water table wore meaaured at selected wella during the month. Conejcs Division During the month a request was made of the Rio Grande Com- pact COmffiissioner fer Colorado for olearance on the olosing of the valves at Platoro Dam to permit making neoessary repairs. The Secretary of the Bcard of Direotors of the Conejos Water Conservanoy District was querried regarding the payment, by the District, of charges due the United States. The Secretary in- formed the Project Mansger that a aheck would be sent to the Bureau for the total funds available to the District Precipitation at P1atoro totalled 4.36 inches for Auguat. General Precipitation at Monte Vista for the month wes 0.87 of en inoh, 87% of norllllll. A light frost oocurred on Au!;Ust 31,{ 1 thua we have had s frost every month of 1955. ~~~':l
